Afrobeats artist, Joeboy makes a bold return with his latest single, SMH’ (short for ‘Something’s Missing Here’), produced by longtime collaborator and hitmaker Tempoe. Released via Young Legend in partnership with Warner Music Africa, SMH blends Afrobeats with rich Indian and Middle Eastern influences, offering a hypnotic glimpse into the sonic direction of Joeboy’s highly anticipated third studio album.
Speaking on the track’s theme, Joeboy explains:
“There’s a certain clarity of mind that hits you when you finally understand that not all relationships are meant to last forever. Some are just phases with lessons to learn—simple as that. Whatever seems to be missing, no matter how hard you try, is missing for a reason.”
Built around a mesmerizing sample, SMH pairs intricate percussion with lush instrumentation, elevating Joeboy’s signature melodic vocals as he navigates an irresistible yet toxic love affair. The track sees him once again team up with Tempoe, the mastermind behind his breakout hits ‘Sip (Alcohol)’ and Door’featuring Kwesi Arthur. With an impressive production résumé that includes Victony’s Soweto, Omah Lay’s Godly, and CKay’s global smash Love Nwantiti, Tempoe continues to shape the evolving sound of contemporary Afrobeats.
Joeboy’s return comes at a high point in his career. Fresh off announcing his 2025 world tour, he has already kicked things off with sold-out shows in Australia. The tour will continue with European stops in Copenhagen, Rome, Milan, Stockholm, and Amsterdam before heading to the UK in June for headline shows in Manchester, London, Birmingham, and Leicester. Tickets are available now.
Since his breakout in 2017, Joeboy has amassed over 2 billion global streams, including 135 million Spotify plays for ‘Sip (Alcohol)’, while consistently delivering chart-topping hits. 2024 also marked a major milestone with the launch of his Lagos-based label, Young Legend, in partnership with Warner Music Africa. In less than a year, Young Legend’s releases have already garnered 80 million streams across digital platforms, reinforcing Joeboy’s status as one of Afrobeats’ most beloved artists.
