There may be no love in Lagos but at the HERE at Outernet event center in London, the trio was met with an outpouring of love and admiration on November 26, 2024 when they performed and spread the gospel of their joint album.
The No Love In Lagos album examines profound themes surrounding men’s mental health. The songs cleverly compare the relentless pursuit of success in Lagos with the often-overlooked satisfaction of romantic relationships. Through introspective lyrics, the rappers candidly explore the conflict between the fleeting satisfaction of material wealth and the enduring significance of a lifetime. The Cavemen’s soulful vocals and David Nsikak’s masterful guitar work weave a rich sonic tapestry, perfectly capturing the album’s contemplative ambiance.
The No Love in Lagos concert, first of its kind to hold in the buzzing city of London, delivered an immersive live music experience, championed by Show Dem Camp’s “palmwine sound” and the culture-preserving highlife instrumentation by The Cavemen. David Nsikak pulled his weight and showed why he is a celebrated guitarist, each strum of his guitar strings evoking a homely feel even for the overseas audience.
The anticipation was palpable for London fans. Despite doors scheduled to open at 7 pm, devoted fans began queuing as early as 5:30 pm. By the time HERE at Outernet officially welcomed attendees, the crowd trooped in excitedly, ready to immerse themselves in a groundbreaking audio-visual experience. At 8:15 pm, Dipo and his band took the stage, delivering a captivating opening set that primed the audience for the night ahead. Making their London debut, Dipo’s energetic performance of Ginger Me and Ain’t No Love ignited the crowd’s enthusiasm. Show Dem Camp, The Cavemen, and David Nsikak seamlessly built upon this momentum, launching into a rousing intro performance that had the entire audience singing along with heartfelt fervor. The meticulously designed stage, complete with strategically positioned trusses, safety barricades, and props, fostered an intimate connection between the headlining acts and their devoted Tribe, ensuring an unforgettable experience.
A standout moment of the concert came when The Cavemen took the stage for a captivating solo set. They delighted fans with beloved hits like Osondu, Adaugo, and Selense. The harmonious blend of Kingsley ‘s soulful vocals and masterful guitar work perfectly complemented Benjamin’s dynamic drumming and impressive falsetto range. This synergy sparked unbridled excitement among the enthralled audience.
The evening’s excitement was further elevated by special guest appearances from Moelogo, Obongjayar, Tim Lyre, and Ruti, among others. Behind the scenes, the technical crew and event staff played a crucial role in delivering a phenomenal night of live music. Particular praise is due to Dr. Nike, the event manager, as well as Taiwo George and his assistant, Ijeoma Ikokwu, who expertly handled project management and artist welfare.
